The Council has an ongoing blind cord safety campaign through the Western Home Environmental Assessment Project (WHEAP) which is jointly funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA). Since 2014 newEuropean standards require blinds to be supplied and fittedwithout a cord or chain, or appropriate child safety devicesmust be installed. Tips for blind cord safety: • Install blinds that do not have a cord, particularly in a child’s bedroom • Do not place a child’s cot, bed, playpen or highchair near awindow • Keep pull cords on curtains and blinds short and out of reach of small children by using a cleat, clip or cord tie, which are available fromblind retailers. • Do not cut blind cords, which can become tangled and reforma loop. For further information and advice on blind andwindowcord safety please contact the Council’s Home Assessment Officer on 0300 303 1777 .
