Promoting Good Relations The Council’s Good Relations team works with local communities to promote understanding, respect and interaction within and among communities. Earlier this year the Council launched a report into the issues facing Black, Minority Ethnic and Travelling (BMET) communities living within the district. The information within the report will be used to help inform the development of the new Community Plan (see page 13 for further information on Community Planning), and other plans developed by the Council and partner organisations. This will help the Council and other agencies to engage with, plan for and deliver to communities more effectively, inclusively and efficiently. Breastfeeding Welcome Here A number of our venues are members of the Breastfeeding Welcome Here Scheme. In Omagh these include The Grange, the Public Services Centre, Sperrin Centre, Lisnamallard House, Strule Arts Centre, and Omagh Leisure Complex while the Townhall, The Ardhowen, Fermanagh County Museum, and Fermanagh Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen; the Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown and the Castle Park Leisure Centre in Lisnaskea are also members of the Scheme. This means babies can be breastfed in any public area in these venues. Mothers should not be expected to breastfeed in a private room unless they wish to do so. Inform Winter 2016 05 A district for everyone In brief Age Friendly Fermanagh and Omagh This year the Council continued its ‘Age Friendly’ work in partnership with South West Age Partnership and local older people’s groups with support and funding from the Public Health Agency to make the district a more age friendly place to live. We have established a very successful interagency forum which works to improve the flow of information between various agencies and older people on matters relevant to them. The Council also ran two very successful Age Friendly conferences with a third planned for next March, and also hosted the Fermanagh and Omagh Pensioners’ Parliament. Irish, Ulster Scots and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes Classes in Irish language, Ulster Scots and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) will commence in January 2017. There will also be an Irish language Christmas concert Ceolchoirm na Nollaig on 8 December 2016 and an Ulster Scots and Irish Language Festival - which will include language courses, music and dance - on Saturday 18 February 2017 , both of which will take place at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh. Food Hygiene is getting easier to spot in the Fermanagh and Omagh district! All food outlets covered by the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme are now required by law to publicly display their food hygiene rating sticker, which is given by the relevant district council following an inspection by an Environmental Health Officer. Ratings can range from ‘5’ which means the food hygiene standards are very good, to ‘0’ where urgent improvement is necessary. Failure by a business to display the correct rating may result in a fine or prosecution. You can check food hygiene ratings of food premises online at www.ratings.food.gov.uk .
